  • Founded in 1998, NSPN is a non-profit organization devoted to helping sea kayakers at all levels enjoy the ocean and improve their skills. Our home base is the North Shore of Massachusetts, but we range up and down the beautiful New England coastline.

The heart of our club is a “pass it forward” culture of peer teaching and learning, with a membership ranging from seasoned experts to novices. Key activities include paddling trips, skills sessions, camping trips, winter pool sessions, workshops and social events.  We support members seeking leadership and coaching training with our Leadership Training Fund.

We are a member club of the Maine Island Trail Association and are stewards of two MITA islands in Casco Bay.

    • Jewell-Brochure-Current.pdf The map should help...  Number 10 is by the wharf. I really like #16... the tide is an issue there
    • That's nice to hear…but what/where are campsites 8 and 10?
    • Just came back from 3 days (2 nights) and Jewell Island in Casco Bay. The caretaker and others have done a lot of work since when my last visit in May. They built steps with stones from the beach to campsite #8, and wooded steps at the end of the beach for site 10; trails were very well taken care off. Campsites and toilets clean.
    • I would add shear clamps because they true up the lines and make installing the deck easier. Then I epoxy small blocks of wood under the deck in key locations for deck lines and rigging as needed. Use vertical grain WRC or clear spruce. You could learn about Maroske Fittings on the builder pages but that's overkill for this. There are plastic domes that you see on some kayaks. They have four routes for lines and take an 1/8" machine screw to fasten. Just use a SS fender washer or similar under the deck. They are sold at Top Kayaker online or maybe CLC. Didn't you have a Yare? Still have it?
